Albany (WA)

We loved Albany so much that we extended our stay for 10 days. Sometimes everything just aligns – camp site on a tranquil river, stunning weather, a town immersed in history, full of activities and surrounded by natural beauty.

From a whaling town to a whale-watching town, Albany’s Historic Whaling Station provides a graphic but fascinating insight into a bygone era.

Set within the heritage listed Princess Royal Fortress, the National Anzac Centre offers a deeply personal connection to the Anzac experience. In late 1914 over 41,000 troops departed Albany, bound for the Great Wars.

Around 50kms west of Albany is the town of Denmark where we began the Scotsdale Tourist Drive through lush forests and charming vineyards then out to the picturesque beaches of Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks.

There is a scenic walk from Middleton Beach with glorious harbour views but not so glorious black skinks. They hide under shrubs and I would effing crap myself every time they’d dart (looking like snakes) across the path in front of me.😆

We also walked from the Albany Wind Farm along the coast which has spectacular natural scenery. We then explored The Gap (25 metre sheer drop to the ocean) & the Natural Bridge.

There is so much to do & see in Albany that we could have stayed another 10 days. Below is just a few more snapshots of our time there.
