Exmouth (WA)

Exmouth is in close proximity to the Cape Range National Park, which is known for its rugged limestone gorges. We decided to try the Mandu Mandu Walk which is a moderately difficult trail that winds its way along a rocky creek bed and into a deep gorge.

We started up the track that lead to the top of the Mandu Mandu Gorge. After scrambling over rocks & climbing up a few large boulders I stopped to get my bearings and to find the track markers. Foolishly I looked down and I muttered a four letter word followed by another four letter word.๐Ÿ˜† I had gone to far up the gorges wall to come back down, the steep rocks above seemed unclimbable and the drop below was now about 8 metres. I was literally rock climbing without any ropes. Dave would say Iโ€™m being a little melodramatic here but I know my capabilities and it wasnโ€™t looking good.๐Ÿฅด

Opposite the Cape Range National Park is the Ningaloo Marine Park which includes the 300 kilometre long Ningaloo Reef.๐Ÿ  In the โ€œturquoiseโ€ waters of Turquoise Bay you can drift snorkel as a natural current flows south to north. I snorkelled close to the beach as the current here is strong but I still enjoyed viewing the fish filled coral gardens.๐ŸŒŠ

At the end of the Cape Range National Park is Yardie Creek Gorge where we enjoyed a relaxing one hour boat tour spotting many Rock Wallabies.

The Exmouth countryside is dotted with termite mounds so we stopped for a closer look.

We drove up and up and up to the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse. Even though it was extremely windy we enjoyed spectacular views of Ningaloo Reef.

The Exmouth – Ningaloo Visitor Centre is a new state of the art tourism and community hub. The En Route to Exmouth Gallery offers a detailed insight into the fascinating history of this region and the Cyclone Room takes you through a severe tropical cyclone. As well as an aquarium this hub offers many interactive games such as designing your own personalised fish. Hmm… can you spot mine?๐Ÿ˜†
