As a passenger, from beginning to end, I loved crossing the Nullarbor. As a driver, well…you would have to ask Dave. Although, I did keep him well entertained as I gaily sang ABBA songs & belted out ballards (and no Dave, I am not tone deaf). In preparation for the long drive I compiled trivia quizzes & fun relationship questionnaires which Dave really enjoyed (apparently combined we are practical, indecisive, slow-moving but adventurous which probably explains this trip).
I would also keep Dave informed of interesting Nullarbor facts; worlds largest piece of limestone, worlds longest underwater cave, world’s straightest stretch of road, world’s longest golf course, world’s worst flies.🪰🪰🪰

No flies on me🥴
Flies photo bombing us😆
Fly fascinator👍
Shoo fly don’t bother me🎼
Quite simply – Nullarbor means no (nullus), tree (arbor) or no tree. Over 100,000 camels roam this plain however we encountered none so I think we should change the name to Nullarbororcamelus.🤣

Camel warning signs
Could they be camel-flaged😆
On our first night we stopped in the small town of Penong with a population of 280 people and 100 windmills.

Bruce – Australia’s biggest windmill
Pub – Australia’s biggest schnitzel 😆
Home of the windmills
We took a short bumpy drive from Penong towards Point Sinclair to see the Pink & Blue Lakes. Absolutely worth the drive – something unique.👍
We made our way to the Great Australian Bight to view the Bunda Cliffs. We accidentally coordinated our clothing for our sight seeing today. Clearly ocean is our favourite colour.
Our second night included a few drinks in the bar followed by a romantic dinner for two at the Nullarbor Roadhouse.

Hot Date😜

There is a quarantine checkpoint at the WA / SA border. Quarantine personnel and police officers check your car and caravan for fruit, vegetables, honey and now also COVID.🥴

Border Crossing
Stay tuned for Border Control episode😆
The tiny hot sandy town of Eucla was our third night stopover. Here we are on Border Time as there are 3 time zones between Adelaide & Perth.

There are many iconic signs, tributes and places that make great opportunities to pull over, stretch your legs and take a photo. Below are just some of my favourites.
