Esperance (WA)

Esperance is not an easy place to travel to which is probably why it has kept its beach town vibe. You either drive across the Nullarbor or drive 7-8 hours from Perth to reach it however once you arrive you’ll be rewarded with an unforgettable escape and may never want to leave. Esperance is known for it’s white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The township of Esperance is also a great place to walk or cycle around. 🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Located 50kms from Esperance is Cape Le Grand National Park. We decided to walk from Lucky Bay to Thistle Cove and back because it is the easiest section of the Cape Le Grand Coastal Trail. This walk / hike is one of the best we have ever done! We wandered along sandy tracks, scrambled over granite and enjoyed spectacular views in every direction.

Lucky Bay has wide sandy beaches set between rocky headlands and was voted “The Whitest Beach in Australia”. It’s also home to beach dwelling Kangaroos that seem to love human interaction and pose like supermodels for each photo taken. Note: Image below shows my poster boy also joining the photo op.🤣

The Great Ocean Drive is a circular loop highlighting many beaches, lagoons and lakes on and around the coastline. As we parked to view the Once Pink Lake🥴 (that’s now Grey) a couple of very clever Magpies hopped straight towards the car to peck and eat the bugs stuck under our bull-bar. Crispy, hot cooked bugs to go! I’ve never seen magpies do this.😮

Another stop on the scenic drive is the disused wind turbines at Salmon Beach Wind Farm which was Australia’s first commercial wind farm. I’m not sure why but I’m fascinated by wind turbines.🥴Perhaps it’s the bold, striking statement they make on the landscape and what they represent for future generations.
